OLD VS NEW
It was on Day 2 that I noticed a few things regarding the matching of new skates with old pads and old stick. The new skates are extraordinarily lightweight and mobile. They don’t require the pads to be anchored to them as much as my old skates used to. The pads have old school toe ties and boot straps that actually impede the natural movement of the skate under load. On this day, I tried skating with the toe ties and boot straps fastened the way I used to back on my Bauer Supreme skates from….the late 1990s. Also, the weight of the goal stick was familiar to me but it did get weighty at some point during this session, making me remember just how heavy old sticks are!
