WELCOME TO THE MOBILITY MISSION
My name is Phil Hovey. I am an above knee amputee on my right side. I’ve been an amputee all my life.
I welcome amputees of all limb differences here to join The Mobility Mission. I welcome health care clinicians of all professions to participate in The Mobility Mission.
Here is a glimpse into my world as an above knee amputee, mobility consultant, public speaker, and amputee patient model.
I offer 1 on 1 consulting to amputees of all limb differences to improve their confidence. My plans/services are open to others with special needs.
You can book me as a patient model to assist in mock sessions at your clinic/health care centers.
I am available for hire for speaking engagements for groups of any size. Topics are customized to your organization’s needs.
Amputees can join in my group setting activities/seminars.

My Approach
by fall 2026, i will be a
NASM Certified personal trainer
As an above knee amputee, I grew up on a prosthesis. I took on physical activities that people told me were “impossible for someone like you”. I rode horses in a therapeutic riding program. I went from student to riding instructor as a teen.
I played street hockey with friends. When I saw a need for something local, I began a roller hockey league in my town when I was only 15 years old.
I played roller hockey as a goalie for many years. Making the transition from roller hockey skates to ice hockey skates was a goal I was determined to check off my list. As a teen, I began my journey playing ice hockey as a goalie. At the time, there were 0 options for me to join adaptive sports organizations. I played my entire life of hockey with “able bodied” hockey players.
My background in public speaking dates back to 1996 when I began my journey as a presenter with various diversity/disability awareness organizations. Since then, I have presented in front of a collective audience well over thousands of people. While doing my undergrad at Quinnipiac University, I studied to be an Occupational Therapist for the first year and half of my time there. I participated in every leadership event/training I could during my 4 years.
My training and certifications from Cornell University in communications, leadership, and business development guarantee that you will be working with a well spoken and punctual professional. My role in the health science/amputee community is one of extreme pride backed by a lifetime of experience.
Today, in 2026….after many years away from the game of hockey, I’m returning to the ice as a goalie.
My back story is one of a life as an amputee learning ways to overcome other people’s view of what is possible. I recall a poster of a lower limb amputee at Hanger Clinic years ago with the tag line “I’M POSSIBLE”. That’s where my offerings to the amputee community begin….showing others they too ARE POSSIBLE.
