DAY 7
Day 7 was a super busy day at the rink. Initially, the hockey leg was set up to be in its optimal alignment following delivery. However, a need arose where I had to use the hockey leg on a typical walking setup…meaning the hockey specific settings were reset.
Lexi was generous enough to come to the rink at the start of day 7’s start to align the hockey prosthesis into a more skate friendly baseline for me to work from that day.
I noticed some differences from the initial hockey setup. However, not all the differences were bad! This new alignment has given me mobility in different ways from the initial prosthesis adjustments.
The thing with prosthetic componentry is that no matter what is “ideal” by charts, numbers, and calculations….the patient’s body feel is always the end all be all of working with the components. Sometimes less than textbook adjustments become the most productive and comfortable settings for the wearer.
The trouble is that I’ve often fallen victim to option paralysis instead of staying with new settings long enough to adapt. The quick fix of adjustments is necessary for many situations. Yet, the downside is that often times I don’t spend long enough time with certain adjustments and make an ever quicker fix.
This experience on day 7 was a great test of patience, physical endurance, and adaptations of body mechanics as I wanted to skate on this setup in its purest form without making further big changes.
