BUILD A NET PRESENCE BY BUILDING RINK AWARENESS

My years of hockey taught me that since my prosthesis presents unique mobility challenges. With those challenges, I had to develop a system of goaltending that emphasized positional play over reactive play.

Now some 13 years later, revisiting these theories on rink awareness, I am excited to show you this segment of my lesson where I really tested my body and positional awareness in stopping shots.

This segment is a favorite from the day as it puts together the new abilities of stopping on my right foot, shuffling through movements to my sides, all while beginning to utilize alternating feet during each rep.

NOTE: Watching this segment reminds me for next time, enable a lower ready stance to allow the blocker hand to come off my hip and allow for my stick to touch the ice. The gap between my stick blade and ice needs to be sealed in my pre-shot ready stance!
